It's been almost 6 months since Tim died. I'm doing well, my cancer is still in remission and I'm amazingly busy. Sometimes, it seems like time has stopped. At other times, the days, weeks and months just speed by.
For those of you who were able to attend Tim's Celebration of Life, thank you for being there and for all your tributes and memories. I also appreciated the cards and messages from many of you who couldn't make the Celebration. This picture is a collage of photos that were on display at the Celebration.
My Dad Mike will turn 100 in May and, as Tim loved to boast, Dad still has all his hair, all his teeth, all his mind and he takes no meds. He lives independently, loves to cook and cleans his apartment every day. Dad misses being able to go camping and traveling, so instead he reads and watches the History Channel and Animal Planet when he's not cooking or cleaning. He's also become a Green Bay Packers fan.
Dad wasn't able to make the trip from Milwaukee to attend Tim’s Celebration. But, thanks to my fellow coda (those who have Deaf parents) Vince and his interpreter colleague Kirk , we videotaped them interpreting the Celebration program. When I went to visit my Dad last week, I brought the video with me so we could watch it together. Dad and I both shed many laughs and tears as well as our own memories of Tim. Dad was so struck by how much Tim meant to his friends and colleagues. He wanted me to post his appreciation to everyone who attended the Celebration and especially to those who shared their memories of Tim. He wanted to toast Tim and all his friends and colleagues. And, I want to thank all of you for your ongoing love and support.
I've received a lot of calls and emails from friends and relatives out of town who were concerned about me during the massive wildfires, smoke and power outages here in Northern California over the past few weeks. So far, my immediate neighborhood in Berkeley has escaped all the power outages, but not the smoke. The outlook seems more promising over the next few days, but we're all trying not to think of this as "the new normal."
